South African Bobotie is a savory dish made with minced beef and topped with a flavorful egg custard.
Ingredients

- 500g minced beef
- 1 onion, chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 slices white bread, soaked in milk
- 1/4 cup milk
- 1/4 cup raisins
- 2 tablespoons curry powder
- 1 tablespoon chutney
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
- 1 tablespoon sugar
- 2 large eggs
- 1 bay leaf
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F).
- In a pan, sauté the onion and garlic until soft.
- Add minced beef and cook until browned.
- Mix in soaked bread, raisins, curry powder, chutney, lemon juice, sugar, salt, and pepper.
- Transfer the mixture to a baking dish and smooth the top.
- In a bowl, whisk eggs and milk together and pour over the meat mixture.
- Place a bay leaf on top.
- Bake for 30-40 minutes until set and golden.

- Serve with yellow rice and chutney.
- Use halal-certified minced beef.
