A simple and elegant cake topped with smooth buttercream frosting.

- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 1/2 cups sugar
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 cup milk
- 3 1/2 tsp baking powder
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 4 cups powdered sugar
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened (for frosting)
- 2–3 tbsp milk (for frosting)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
- In a large bowl, cream together the butter and sugar.
- Add eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition.
- Stir in the milk and vanilla extract.
- In a separate bowl, combine flour, baking powder, and salt.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, mixing until smooth.
- Pour the batter evenly into the prepared pans.
- Bake for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
- Let the cakes cool for 10 minutes, then remove from pans.
- For frosting, beat together butter and powdered sugar, adding milk until desired consistency.
- Frost the cooled cakes and serve.
Notes
- Use room temperature ingredients for better mixing.
- Store leftovers in an airtight container.
- Feel free to add food coloring to the buttercream for a pop of color.
